What the window says
미용실
mi·yong·sil
It is the Korean word for a hair salon, cut in white vinyl across our front glass, next to the pair of blades cut beside it in the same white. It is the first thing people read on the way in.
Underneath it: cuts, color work, regular and digital perms, and the magic straight. One board of prices, and the same pair of hands doing all of it. The window is in Korean because the salon is Korean-owned; everyone is welcome to walk through it.
What people
walk out with
Cut, colored and finished by the same person, start to finish.
Cut
Long layers
Weight taken out of the length so it moves, without losing the length itself. Cut to grow in, not to grow out.
Color
Highlight [ Foil ]
Full foil or partial, with a toner over the top when the tone needs pulling back. $120 and up, $95 and up, and the toner from $40.
Finish
Hair styling
The blow-dry that gets taught back to you before you leave, so the shape survives the week and not just the afternoon.
The board
on the wall
You are probably reading and up as the place where the number quietly grows. Length, thickness and how much work the color needs are the only things that move it. Call and describe your hair and you get a number before you come in.

How an
appointment goes
You have probably sat in a chair where nobody asked what you wanted until the hair was already on the floor. Here the asking comes first — because a cut that only looks right on the day you got it isn’t a cut.
You get asked
Length and thickness get talked through first — what you want, what your hair will actually hold, and where the two meet. The cutting starts after that conversation.
Young cuts
She owns the salon and works the chair herself. The same pair of hands does the cut, the color and the perm from start to finish.
You get shown
Before you go you get shown how to dry it and where to part it. The finish you walk out with is one you can get again yourself.
The room
Peach walls, terracotta tile, two arched mirrors, and a red lamp and a cream one over the stations.
Young owns the salon and works the chair herself. The mirror you sit in front of is one of the two above.

Questions
How much is a women’s haircut in Skokie?
A women’s haircut is $35 and a men’s is $25. Color starts at $80, a root touch-up at $55, and a regular perm at $90. The whole board is on this page, and the same one is on our wall.
Do I need an appointment, or can I walk in?
Appointments are preferred and walk-ins are accepted. Calling first means the time is set aside for you, which matters most for color, perms and straightening.
Do you do the Korean magic straight perm?
Yes. Magic Straight is $230 and up, and Organic Keratin Straight is $250 and up. Both are priced from, because length and thickness change the amount of product and time. Call and describe your hair and you will get a number before you come in.
Can you fix a cut I got somewhere else?
People come in for exactly that. If you feel like you have run out of chances, you are not the first — one customer came in on her fourth cut in a month, after three that had gone wrong, and found there was still enough hair to save. Call and tell us what happened and how much length is left, so we can set aside the right amount of time.
Who will be cutting my hair?
Young, the owner. She cuts, colors and perms herself.

Is there any harm in calling to ask what your hair would cost? There is no app and no account here — the phone is the booking system. Tell us what you want done and roughly how long your hair is, and we’ll book you in. Or walk in: the door is open six days a week, 9 to 7.
